What a great, if rather rainy event!
On Friday 7 June the Friends of Kennet Valley School held their annual School Summer Fair. After a last-minute change of venue, due to the terrible weather forecast, the event was rearranged to be held at the Kennet Valley Village Hall. A huge thank you to the Kennet Valley Hall for allowing us to have the hall, very much appreciated.
Parents, school children and the wider community were treated to many exciting activities at the fair.
The fair got under way with the maypole dancing club beautifully weaving their ribbons to the sounds of Barwick Green (The Archers Theme tune), they had been practicing for many weeks before their performance which was a very enjoyable spectacle.
Music students who have lessons provided by Slater Music School at KVS showed the crowds their skills, performing superbly on the drums and ukulele.
A bar, BBQ, cafe, bouncy castle, scoop a duck, tombola, raffle and more attractions kept everyone entertained. The afternoon was rounded of by performances by a St John’s School band called ‘BOJ’ and ‘For One Night Only’, a dad’s band who both had the crowd dancing along to some popular songs.
The event raised just over £1200, which was a record. The Friends of KVS support school activities and are currently raising money to upgrade the school playground and equipment.
A huge thank you to everyone for coming as well to all those that helped with all the preparation and tidy up; including baking, putting up marquees (in the rain) and donating prizes.
