Hedgehogs Class

Term 2 – Eco Warriors

Another busy term in Hedgehog Class!
In Science sessions, we have been exploring ‘Materials’. We have named, sorted and described a variety of materials and looked at how we use them.
In Maths, we have been learning Number Bonds to 10 and 20. We looked at how the patterns can help us remember them. We had great fun in Maths Investigation week, where we used many Maths skills to build a train from recyclable materials. The children had a pot of money and bought items from our class shop. They could hire scissors and glue pots to make their models, as long as they had enough money! We even had a half-price sale and had to calculate halves of numbers.
Our literacy work has involved looking at rhyming stories, repetitive stories and sequencing story events. The Year One children are very proud of their joined handwriting.
The end of term has been exciting leading up to Christmas. We learnt about the story of The First Christmas and had a Nativity Role Play corner. The children would often be seen parading around the school dressed as Mary and Joseph looking for a place to stay! The children loved performing the songs and dances in the Christmas Play to a very packed hall of Parents, Grandparents and friends.
In Art, we have made cards, calendars and wrapping paper using a variety of resources. We have learnt how to sing and sign ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’.
This term we have enjoyed welcoming visitors for our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions throughout the term and Hedgehog class have shown how kind and helpful they are.
The Hedgehog team wish you all a very Happy Christmas and look forward to sharing more news in the New Year.
