Year 5 & 6 had a wonderful day on the water
Pupils of Kennet Valley School ventured to the Cotswold Lakes to learn about the basics of sailing and to have some watery fun!
Bowmoor Sailing Club hosted the fantastic day and the school were incredibly thankful to them for such a wonderful day. The Sailing club’s coaches encouraged the children to try out their sailing skills throughout the day. All of the children in year 5 and 6 learnt lots of the terminology and how to move the boat about the beautiful lake. They even got to have a blast in one of the rescue boats. All at the school were also very grateful to Mrs Blackmore, the PE subject leader who organised this inspiring day out for the children.
Class Teacher Sarah-Jane Chalker said,
“This has been a fantastic experience for our children, and it has been great to see them have so much fun in the water. We are so proud of our sporting successes this year and we have tried to find lots of new sporting opportunities for all children at school”
The children worked in groups to man a dinghy and even had access to kayaks and stand up paddle boards which meant that they all had a super time in the lake. Parents were able to spectate throughout the day and they also took a turn in the dinghy. Many commented on how much laughter they could here as the children played together.
One child remarked that,
“I’ve never been in a boat before so it was great to try something new, I think I want a kayak for Christmas now”
