At Kennet Valley School we have an integrated and creative approach to learning across the curriculum which focuses on enabling the children to develop ‘Lifelong Learning Skills’. The academic year is divided into six different themes which enable a broad and balanced curriculum to be planned. Each theme has a principal focus with all other curriculum areas interwoven in a meaningful way.
At Kennet Valley we strive to encourage our children to become ‘Lifelong Readers’ and this is supported with the development of our new school library. The teachers follow the DfE Letters & Sounds Phonics scheme alongside the actions from Jolly Phonics to support children to develop a clear understanding of phonics.
Every child is provided with reading books from our school library in the first instance this is from our Oxford Reading Tree Banded books. As the children develop they are encouraged to become free readers, selecting books for themselves.
We encourage close working relationships between home and school to maximise every opportunity for the enjoyment of new learning. We welcome any help or support from parents or the local community to enhance the learning opportunities.
