Our English Lead is Sarah Byford. Phonics and Early Reading are led by Jacqy McQue.

Each term our English Learning Journeys are driven by carefully selected high-quality texts. These text drivers lead to both a narrative and a non-narrative outcome. During each unit of work, the children focus on two or three key grammar skills.

Whole Class Guided Reading is taught four times a week in Key Stage 2. Across the year, children read both fiction and non-fiction texts. In Reception and Key Stage 1 Guided Reading is taught in smaller fluid groups based on the children's fluency.

Phonics is delivered daily in Reception and Year 1 following the Little Wandle Programme. Year 2 have a daily spelling lesson following the Little Wandle Spelling Programme, which is designed to build coherently on the children's prior experiences.
